Patan Durbar Square is the historical place of Paran city. This city is located at the center of Lalitpur district. However, Patan is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley. Patan Durbar Square is also the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is the focal point of ancient arts and history. Patan durbar has many historical significances. The Ancient Royal Palace of Patan is the major attraction of the place. Moreover, the Durbar square is the creation of Newari architecture. So, every art and architecture speak of ancient Newari creation. There are so many shrines and monasteries around this Durbar Square.

This place is Just 5km away from Kathmandu, Patan Durbar Square preserves old world charm, arts and traditions such as woodcarving and metal crafts. Moreover, the sound of tiny hammers that the craftsman works on to make statues or ornaments can be heard while entering Patan Durbar Square. As Patan is the hub of both Hinduism and Buddhism, it has 55major temples, 136 Buddhist monasteries. Moreover, Festival celebrations of both Hindu and Buddhist can be seen such as Rato Macheendranath Jatra and the display of Dipankar Buddhas during the main day of Samyak Festival. 

Additionally, it is a renowned place for producing thangka and pauba painters and exporting it to many countries. The Patan Museum within the circle of Patan Durbar square is a compilation of metal crafts, wood carvings and it speaks of the history of Malla era. Within Durbar Square, Krishna mandir which is made up of stone is the most important shrine of the Kathmandu Valley. Besides, there are so many shrines and courtyards around the Durbar Square, all of which are noted for their exquisite carvings and their unique craftsmanship which speak of the creativity of the ancient Newari architecture. The exquisite beauty of art and architecture and history of Patan fascinates every tourist’s gaze.

Patan Museum: This museum specializes in bronze statues and religious objects inside Durbar Square. However, it is considered as one of the best museums in Asia. This Museum has many historical objects and it is main attraction of this place. 

Hiranya Varna Mahavihar: It is located inside kwabadehul, this three- story golden pagoda of Lokeshwar (lord Buddha) was built in the twelfth century by king Bhaskar Verma. It is also known as the golden temple. Inside the upper story of the pagoda, are the golden images of lord Buddha and a large prayer wheel.

Golden Window: Golden window was specially built for King Siddhi Narasingha malla. However, King Siddhi Narasingha malla  devotion to Lord Krishna as well as the Buddhist God of compassion Karunamaya Lokeshwar is a famous episode in Nepalese history of religion.

Mahabouddha Temple: Mahabouddha is a temple of Buddha built interestingly in the Hindu Shikara style- has five golden pinnacles. They are all in a stupa shape very symbolic of five basic elements.

Golden Temple: This golden temple is the oldest, richest and most famous monument indeed. Moreover, it was built in the 12th century and is known for its beautiful gold works shining very graciously.

Krishna Temple: Krishma temple is The famous Temple built in the 17th century. This temple of Lord Krishna holds a commanding position in the palace complex of Patan. Additionally, this is the only temple in Nepal to have 21 shrines and is completely made of stone. Most of the important scenes from the ancient Hindu epics the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, have been engraved on its friezes.
