Located at 2546m above sea level, Kapuche Glacier Lake is the lowest altitude glacier lake in the world. The lake that has been surrounded by beautiful mountains and hills lies in the Sikles village of Kaski district of Annapurna Region. This lake gathers glacial melt from Annapurna II, IV and Lamjung Himal. It's the lowest glacier lake in Nepal, very beautiful and even known as a virgin ice lake. It has been declared as the lowest altitude glacier lake of the world where the temperature falls below minus in winter and sometimes the surface-water modifies into the stiff icy ground. It refers to the plain surface made of crushed snow and ice.

The place is more favourable to travel during summer or autumn season. It is better to avoid the rainy season as the place faces pouring rain often. But if you want to see blue water in the lake, September, October, and November are the perfect months, and if you want to see the Avalanche falling in the lake then February, March and April are the best months to go for a trek.

How to reach Kapuche Glacier Lake

Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara, then Pokhara to Sikles

Start your journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara, either by a flight or a 6-7 hour bus ride. From Pokhara, embark on a scenic 4-hour drive to Sikles by jeep, passing through picturesque villages like Taprang, Chipli Gaun, Tangting, and Khailang. Overnight stay in Sikles, surrounded by towering hills.

Day 2: Sikles to Hugu (Goth Ghar)

Witness stunning views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Lamjung Himal from Sikles Village. Begin your trek to Hugu Village, also known as Goth Ghar, with a 5-6 hour hike from Sikles. Experience the tranquility of the mountain scenery along the way.

Day 3: Hugu to Kapuche Lake

Embark on a hike to Kapuche Lake, the lowest Glacier Lake in the world. Enjoy a 2-3 hour trek from Hugu Village to reach the mesmerizing blue waters of Kapuche Lake, surrounded by hills and mountains. If fortunate, witness the spectacular sight of avalanches cascading into the lake. After soaking in the breathtaking views, return to Hugu Village.

Day 4: Hugu to Sikles, then Sikles to Pokhara

Early morning, trek back to Sikles along the same route, taking approximately 4 hours. Enjoy lunch in Sikles before departing for Pokhara, a 4-hour jeep drive away. Arrive in Pokhara and conclude your trek to Kapuche Glacier Lake.

Day 5: Return to Kathmandu

Depart from Pokhara and travel back to Kathmandu by bus, completing your memorable trekking adventure.

Trek to Kapuche is a short trek which can be completed in 5 to 6 days but can be extended with your preferences.

2. How hard is Kapuche Lake Trek?

The trail of Kapuche Lake is quite rough which can make the trek harder. To those who have never gone trekking before then it might be hard for those. 

3. Is electricity available? 

The electricity is available till Sikles village, but the more you go to the higher point you will not find electricity as the village runs on solar power.

5. Drinking water

The natural spring water is available. You can either drink water by putting a water purifying tablet, or it is also possible to buy boiled filter water.

You may choose according to your own convenience, you may either bank transfer, credit card, western union, or other options. 

7. Bank, ATM or money exchange.

There are no banks or atm or money exchange to the higher points of the trek. If you want to carry extra cash for extra expenses, then you can either withdraw or change from Kathmandu or Pokhara.
