Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal. This national park is established in 1973. In 1984 was enlisted as a world heritage site. Moreover, it lies in a south-central part of Nepal of Nawalpur, Prasai, Chitwan and Makwanpur. This national park covers an area of 952.63 square kilometersMoreover, it is situated at an altitude varying from 100 m in the river valleys to 815m higher up in the Churiya Hills in the south. This national park is home to more than 68 mammals and 543 bird species. 

Moreover, Chitwan National Park is a home to many endangered animals such as the greater one horned Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger, Gharial crocodile, freshwater gangetic dolphin and many others. Moreover, four types of deers, two types of monkeys, wild boar, sloth bear, elephants and leopard can be found. Furthermore, many travelers think that Nepal is all about snowcapped mountains, but Nepal also offers mesmerizing mountains but also offers beautiful national parks and reserves. Moreover, Chitwan National Park can be the perfect example of it. Apart from amazing wildlife, Chitwan is famous for the Tharu group, an ethnic group who mainly live in the Terai region of the country and are noted for their mud- walled houses. 

People living here still live the traditional way of life, growing rice, corn, lentils and hunting wild deer, fish, rabbit etc. People who live here are also called ‘People of the Jungle’. Therefore, you will not only get to experience the beauty of the Jungle and animals and birds living there but also experience the traditional culture and traditions of Tharu community while visiting Chitwan National Park.

Best time visit Chitwan National Park

However, Chitwan National Park lies in the Terai region of Nepal, therefor, there won’t be any trouble traveling during any season of the year. But spring and autumn is the best to travel during seasons since you won’t have to have high temperatures during summer and foggy during winter. Terai has high humidity in comparison to Hilly and Mountain regions. Therefore, Chitwan National Park is a place to go for a refreshment purpose or during your leisure.

How to travel to Chitwan National Park?

Day 1- Drive or fly to Chitwan (Bharatpur) from Kathmandu

Day 2- Jeep and foot safari

Day 3- A day with elephants and boat safari down the river 

Day 4- Fly or drive back to Kathmandu from Chitwan
