CULTURAL DRESSES OF NEPAL. 

Nepal is the country where we can see many cultures and tradition. Nepal is in the lap of Himalayas. Every culture has its own dress according to their tradition, culture, and climate. In Nepal people wear traditional and cultural wears in special programs like festivals and marriages.  Nepal has 8th highest mountains which is over 8000 meter in the world. The country tradition and cultural wear reflects Hindu and Buddhism custom and tradition. 

Now a days people became modern and avoid waring traditional dress like they use to wear in past but in Nepal we can still see old age people wearing traditional dress for daily wears. Cultural dress of Nepal has its own importance. 

Saree.

The sari is popular outfit all over in Nepal by women. This dress has its own importance which makes women comfortable and makes beautiful. Women wear this dress when going to temple and festivals such as weddings and other functions.  blouse, a large scarf, and a petticoat is the part of saree. The upper ware blouse is tight and cropped which enhance women’s beauty. Women put their scarf on their solder to their waist. 

Hakku patashi

Hakku patashi is the traditional outfit of the newar community women. Hakku means black and patashi mean saree, so it is a black sari made of pure cotton with red borders. This saree holds a belief that black colour helps to avoid the negative energy of strangers to women. Hakku patashi is worn during Newari cultural events of Newari culture. We can see old age people wearing it daily. Similarly, the sari is paired with a white cloth called (ghacha) waistband, and a shawl worn diagonally over the blouse. Both the ghacha and shawl are made of cotton. 

Daura Suruwal. 

The Daura Suruwal is one of the cultural dresses of Nepal Wear my men’s of Nepal. This is commonly known as Labeda Suruwal. Mostly this dress is worn by men in hilly region of Nepal. Jang Bahadur Rana introduced this outfit in Nepal for the first time. This dress holds some religious significance. In Nepal this dress is usually wear in marriage ceremony and other occasions of Nepal. Thus, this traditional dress consists of upper wear and lower wear. The upper wear is called Daura and lower is called Suruwal. 


Chhuba

This is the cultural dress of sherpa community which has its own importance. Chhuba is wear on the special occasion of sherpa community by women. . Moreover, Married women wear both rear and front aprons and unmarried women wear only the rear apron below the waist. 

Sherpa women wear chhuba over the raatuk, kanam, tetung, an outer jacket, all made of wool which keep them warm and cozzy. This dress is worn in the Himalayan region of Nepal because it is heavy and thick.

Gunyou cholo.  

Gunyou Cholo is a traditional dress made for Nepali girls. This dress symbolizes womanhood. It is also known as female version of Dura Suruwal. Nepali girls prefer wearing many kind of jewellers with this dress.  Family gives this dress to their girls to know them that they are slowly turning into women. The Gunyou is upper wear it is the skirt and the Cholo is upper wear it is the blouse.

Kurtha Suruwal. 

Kurtha suruwal is a dress designed for girls with baggy lower wear which make women confortable. . This dress is mostly worn in bright colors like green, yellow, purple. Mostly this dress has upper wear called kurtha, lower wear is called Suruwal and shawl. This dress is made with cotton and silk fibers wear in hilly and terai region in Nepal. Bright color kurtha is seen mostly in terai region of Nepal. This dress is mostly used for daily wears by women and it is also wear in small special occasion. 

Dhoti.

Dhoti is tradition dress of Nepal that men wear daily in hot and humid area of Nepal. This is a lower wear tradition dress of men. Dhoti is the plain long cloth piece that people tie around their waists which makes easy for men to work in daily life. People of terai region in Nepal love to wear it because it gives comfort, and it is light and easy to wear.
